In the first class, we will work on creating all our bag body. There most likely will be sewing you have to do at home.
The second class will focus on the construction of the bag.
This sew along will lead you through making a Katahdin Tote bag. The Large tote (16"x8"x13") features 4 inside pockets, a double closure zipper, and structural stays to help it keep its form.
Materials Needed:
Fabric:
Bag Body - 40 strips 2 1/2" x width of fabric
Coordinating Fabric - A non-directional fabric for inside pockets, binding, handles, inside bottom, zipper tabs, bows - 1 3/4 yards
Interfacing:
Craftex Plus by Bosal - (20" wide) double sided fusible stiff interfacing - 5/8 yard for inside bottom
Optional: In-R-Form Plus by Bosal - double sided fusible foam batting - 2 strips 2 1/2" wide by 58". Use for sturdier handles and tabs.
Zipper:
30" double-slide zipper with a wide zipper tape
Matching thread (Use a 50-wt polyester thread)
Sewing machine with a good zig-zag stitch
Machine Needles - 110/18 denim
Scissors (both large and small)
rotary cutter, acrylic ruler, pins, seam ripper, measuring tape.
Removable marking tool (chalk, etc.)
Cardboard at least 8" x 20"
